Description

Transform your treasured shirts into a cozy, meaningful keepsake! This 3 week workshop guides participants step-by-step through the process of creating a lap-size memory quilt from their own collection of shirts in a supportive creative environment. All tools and materials (less the tee shirts) needed to complete this keepsake quilt will be provided.

Class will meet:
Thursday, October 8th: 6-9pm
Thursday, October 15th: 6-9pm
Thursday, October 22nd: 6-9pm

Participants will learn how to select and prepare shirts, stabilize stretchy fabrics, plan quilt layout, cut and assemble blocks, add sashing or borders, and piece the quilt top with confidence.

What to Bring:

  • 10-12 clean shirts (any combination of sizes, colors, or styles)

All other materials and supplies including stabilizer, fabric, thread, cutting tools, sewing machines, and ironing stations (and snacks!) will be provided.

Skills Covered:

  • Selecting and preparing shirts for quilting
  • Understanding knit fabrics and the role of stabilizer
  • Cutting T-shirt blocks safely and accurately
  • Designing a quilt layout that highlights your shirt graphics
  • Using a sewing machine to piece blocks and sashing
  • Pressing and finishing techniques to achieve a polished quilt top

While machines are provided for the class, you are more than welcomed to bring your own.  Class is limited to eight students and open to children age 12 and up. Children under the age of 16 must have parental supervision during the class. 

No refunds will be given for student cancellations within two weeks of the class date.  Class may rescheduled if minimum registration is not met. 

Classes are held at 3025 Colechester Road, Virginia Beach, VA.
